Tony Adams will dress up as a scary red devil

Tony Adams will strike fear into the hearts of Arsenal fans on Saturday night when he dresses as a red devil for Strictly Come Dancing’s Halloween special.

The former footballer, 56, turns into the mascot of bitter rivals Man United for his quickstep dance with his partner Katya Jones, reports The Mirror.

Adams played for Arsenal and England and captained both teams. He spent his entire playing career of 19 years as a central defender at Arsenal, making 672 appearances in total.

Tony – who has twice turned down offers to sign for Man United – and Katya will dance wearing his costume to The Charlie Daniels Band’s The Devil Went Down to Georgia.

Before the spooky show, Tony also has to fight bats at his Gloucestershire home.

He told the publication: “We have quite a lot of bats in the house. We live in the country, sometimes they come into the house and I find that scary.’

It comes after earlier this week Tony risked the wrath of BBC bosses for appearing to have broken advertising rules.

The football legend could potentially find himself in hot water after he was spotted wearing two items from his own clothing line during Saturday’s live show – in violation of the broadcaster’s strict advertising guidelines.

In a VT ahead of his performance with pro partner Katya, 33, Tony wore a blue shirt and white t-shirt from his Tony Adams collection – which sported a logo featuring his No 6 shirt number from his Arsenal days.

The logo shows his goal celebration after scoring in Arsenal’s 4-0 win over rivals Everton in 1998.

And while Tony didn’t specifically promote the brand during the clip, he still failed to cover up the logo.

A source told The Sun: “Tony wasn’t sure about the rules. He didn’t think he was doing any harm.

“He only danced in clothes that he was comfortable in and that happened to be part of his collection.

“Strictly speaking, the bosses will be speaking to him and making sure he’s sticking to their rules for this weekend’s show.”

MailOnline has reached out to representatives from Tony and Strictly for comment.

At the final live show on Saturday, Tony and Katya finished bottom of the leaderboard with just 19 points after their theme tune “Cha Cha to the Grandstand.”

Before the routine, Tony joked that they would get a “huge standing ovation.”

However, his dreams were thwarted when Craig exclaimed, ‘It actually reminded me of a scene from Death Becomes Her where Meryl Streep falls down the stairs and comes back with her head turned, darling I’ve never seen anything like that!’

Tony’s routine also left head judge Shirley speechless at his missteps, adding, “You’re a ray of sunshine but below the knee it’s just raining.”

It comes after Tony revealed he had a tense “team talk” with his professional partner Katya before they spoke last Saturday.

The footballer admitted that just hours before the live show during the dress rehearsal, he became “full of fear” and worried about performing, before Katya shared some stern “home truths” with him.

Katya’s strong words paid off as she and Tony earned their highest scores yet, with the judges praising her American Smooth as a tribute to those who helped the athlete during his personal struggles.

On Tuesday’s episode of It Takes Two, Tony told host Rylan Clark: “I was terrified before. We had a team talk.

‘She [Katya] came into my dressing room after our dress rehearsal and told me a few house truths about my reticence.

“I think she admits it could have gone either way. I could have thrown my toys out of the stroller and gone home.

“But I fought back the fear and just went with it.”
