Jordan Veretout may have played his last game for AS Roma amid interest from Premier League duo Newcastle United and Tottenham Hotspur ahead of the summer transfer window Corriere dello Sport.
As the publication points out, the midfielder is ‘living his worst moment in the Giallorossi shirt’. Can you say it out loud.
Veretout’s current form leaves a lot to be desired. But that’s just the tip of an iceberg big enough to sink the Titanic twice.
With his contract expiring, the France international appears destined to leave the Stadio Olimpico in rather acrimonious circumstances.
His wife’s birthday party in Monte Carlo also made headlines for all the wrong reasons. Meanwhile, Veretout’s former agent Mario Guiffredi didn’t have much positive things to say about the 29-year-old this week either (TMW).
Is Jordan Veretout returning to the Premier League?
According to Corriere dello Sport, Giuffredi had agreed a new contract with Veretout.
But the former Aston Villa man refused to sign on the dotted line, demanding a substantial pay rise that would have taken his wages to around £100,000 a week. It was, Corriere adds, an act that “deeply angered” Roma bosses.
Veretout is understood to have held talks with Jose Mourinho this week to clear the air. It’s fair to say that things didn’t really go according to plan.
“If we don’t agree on the contract, I won’t play anymore,” Corriere told Veretout.
Does this mean that the midfielder, who has scored four goals and provided nine assists this season, played his last game in Roma colors? Possibly. After all, Mourinho isn’t exactly known for his forgiving nature.
Accordingly Calciomercato, Newcastle will offer Veretout a second try at Premier League football. Magpies boss Eddie Howe tried to sign him when he was still an Aston Villa player.
Tottenham are also keen via Roma today. And Veretout’s transfer value keeps falling and sits at around £12million.
