Corresponding Sky SportsTottenham Hotspur are interested in Jonathan Clauss as a possible alternative to Djed Spence.
The Middlesbrough full-back has long been touted as one of Tottenham’s key targets this summer transfer window, but with the London club currently £5m less than Boro’s valuation of Spence, a deal remains up in the air.
Luckily, Spurs have a contingency plan in place as Sky report the Lilywhites are keeping tabs on both Clauss and Wilfried Singo.
Singo has been touted as a potential target for some time, but Clauss is a new connection and an interesting one at that.
The Frenchman looks like Antonio Conte’s perfect player. He’s an attacking full-back with a damn powerful engine.
League 1 official website summed it up perfectly with their description:
“Full-back Clauss bombs Lens’ right flank every weekend. He covers over 10km per game and averages 20 sprints, more than any other Lens player.”
According to the profile written by Ligue 1, Clauss was even ranked as the best outfield player in France by Lequipe in the 2020/21 season and that’s no easy feat.
In fact, Clauss had to beat the likes of Neymar and Kylian Mbappe for that award, so it’s safe to say he has a lot of quality.
Spurs’ number one target appears to be Spence but if they miss out on the former loanee from Nottingham Forest then Clauss wouldn’t be a bad alternative.
In other news, the £670,000-a-week superstar makes it clear he doesn’t want to join Newcastle United
