La Liga side Villarreal have agreed a £13m loan purchase deal for Giovani Lo Celso as Tottenham Hotspur’s Premier League outsiders await a return to Spanish soil, as reported by brand.

On the other hand, if Unai Emery is hoping Spurs are ready to sell the Argentina international at a £30m loss, let’s just say the former Arsenal manager shouldn’t hold his breath.

Tottenham are waiting for a £20m+ fee. Far more than Villarreal is currently prepared to offer.

Lo Celso, after falling out of favor under Antonio Conte, impressed in the second half of last season on loan to club Castellon and pulled the strings as Villarreal stunned Bayern Munich and Juventus en route to the Champions League semi-finals.

Furthermore, Villarreal CEO Fernando Roig Negueroles admitted earlier this summer that Lo Celso is more than open to a second appearance at the Estadio de la Ceramica. But the Yellow Submarine however, will have to throw a few men overboard before they can bring the former PSG playmaker on deck.

“We know the player is open to staying. But we can’t sit down to talk about an operation like this without having exits,” says Negueroles HOW.

“It’s a very complicated operation. They (Tottenham) spent a lot of money on the player. Without a sale and with the team we have, we are unable to carry out this operation.

“He’s a great player who was very happy here and we were very happy with him. But he’s a Tottenham player. It’s true that we would like to keep him here, but it’s very complicated.”

Indeed complicated.

Villarreal have proposed a deal that will see Lo Celso back on loan, albeit with a £13million buy commitment clause in his contract. One that would presumably be triggered sometime in 2023.

However, the La Liga side have raised less than £2million through player sales so far. Negotiations between Arnaut Danjuma and West Ham have collapsed while Paco Alcacer, Boulaye Dia and Pervis Estupinan are still at it.
