Antonio Conte said at Thursday’s press conference – according to Football London – that Tottenham midfielder Oliver Skipp is “frustrated” as he remains on the touchline through injury. He just signed a new contract.
Skipp, 21, was in superb form during Conte’s first few games – helping Spurs win five of the six Premier League games he’s started under the Italian. During that time, Spurs kept five clean sheets and conceded two.
But a groin problem has seen Skipp since missing the last 12 Premier League games and the injury has caught on. He is expected to spend most – if not all – of the remaining six games on the touchline.
Conte said at his press conference that while Skipp has been given a new contract until June 2027, the player is “frustrated” with his injury and has a “little problem” recovering from the issue.
“I’m very happy for Skippy because we’re talking about a good player, a young player from an academy. We know a player who has developed very well. Not only is he a good player, we’re talking about a fantastic guy.
“He has a little problem with his injury. I know his frustration. I think his new contract shows that we have a lot of trust in him. He will be very important to Tottenham’s present and future,” said Conte. according to Football London.
Conte on Skipp: The Tottenham star’s deal shows how highly he is rated
Conte cares about his players, especially the ones he knows will have a big impact now and in the future. Skip is certainly one of them. He knows it’s important to reward Skipp and keep his morale high.
While he might be disillusioned with his injury and perhaps the fact that Rodrigo Bentancur came on as a substitute and impressed in his absence, Skipp reminds of his importance to the side when handing him a new deal. Smart, by Conte.
