Tottenham boss Fabio Paratici could ambush old club Juventus for a third time in two windows for midfielder Adrien Rabiot. One player, Hugo Lloris, said in 2020 he knew he’d always “had the potential”.
Rabiot, 27, is about to enter the final 12 months of his contract at Juventus – three years after Paratici lured him to Juventus from Paris Saint-Germain. He remains an important part of Juve’s squad and has made 40 appearances this season.
But he’s yet to get a new deal with the old lady, CalcioMercato reports that Juve would rather ditch their whopping £112,000-a-week wages. In fact, they state an offer of £12.5million is enough.
Tottenham are not ruled out as a potential suitor for the France star, a player who plays for his country alongside Lloris. After beating Portugal in 2020, Lloris showered Rabiot with praise in an interview with Maxifoot.
“Adri has always had potential, nothing new,” said Lloris after Rabiot’s performance in the 1-0 win. “Since signing for Juventus you see a matured player. He performs very well. It’s nice to see him blossoming.”
Lloris on Rabiot: Why Tottenham should avoid signing Juventus ace
Rabiot is a good player. But Antonio Conte prefers energy in the middle of the park, a midfielder with an incredible workrate and a defensive mindset. Rabiot has the latter, but his laid-back style wouldn’t work.
Not only that, but Rabiot would struggle to break into the squad ahead of Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg and Rodrigo Bentancur. If he wants similar wages to Juventus then he would be an expensive squad player.
