Trincao is about to leave Barcelona with a 20 million euro deal: Report

Francisco Trincao

Francisco Trincao celebrates with Barcelona.

Francisco Trincao spent last season leaving Barcelona on loan at Premier League Wolverhampton Wanderers and will likely return before the start of the 2022-23 season.

The winger is “close” to agreeing to a move to Portugal’s Sporting on a two-year loan deal, which includes a mandatory purchase option at 20 million euros, Mundo Deportivo reports, according to Mundo Deportivo.

Barcelona and Sporting are currently negotiating an agreement where the buy option will come into effect if “a series of easily achievable goals” are completed over the next season.

The Catalan side want around 20-25 million euros for Trincao, who cost the club 31 million euros when he signed from Braga in 2020. Trincao spent only one season at Barcelona before being transferred. to Wolves.

If Trincao moves on, he will be the latest player to leave the Camp Nou this summer, following Dani Alves, Ferran Jutgla and Philippe Coutinho in saying goodbye to Barcelona.

Trincao to make payment cuts

Trincao seems happy to return to Portugal and is ready to take a pay cut to help the deal go through, according to Sport. The winger “knows he won’t have many minutes at Barca” and thinks returning to his homeland is the best option.

The forward has made 42 appearances in all competitions for Barcelona but has struggled to make an impact at Camp Nou following his move from Braga. Trincao scored just three goals and provided two assists before being transferred to Wolves.

The Premier League side had the opportunity to sign Trincao permanently, due to a clause in his loan, but chose not to accept. Trincao played regularly last season in England’s top flight but was clearly not enough to convince Wolves to keep him.

Barcelona’s wide options for 2022-23

Coach Xavi loves playing with wingers but it seems his arrival does not mean a second chance for Trincao at Barcelona. Instead, Xavi will be looking for other options for his team in the new campaign.

The Catalan side continue to be linked with a move to buy Leeds winger Raphinha but could struggle to finalize a deal with the Premier League side demanding €55m for the Brazilian.

Free agent Angel Di Maria has also emerged as a possible option, but the Catalan giants have now ruled out making the move for the Argentine, as reported. Gerard Romero.

Meanwhile, Ousmane Dembele’s future remains uncertain. The Frenchman’s contract with Barcelona is due to expire at the end of June but there is still no clear indication of where he will play next season.

Xavi can therefore turn to youth and have a few options. Moroccan winger Ez Abde made his first-team debut last season and also impressed for Barcelona B at the end of the 2021-22 season.

The Barcelona coach may also want to give Ilias Akhomach a chance and will test the youngster ahead of the season, according to Sport. Xavi was clearly a fan of the 18-year-old as he raised eyebrows as he named the boy in his starting XI in his first game in charge of Barcelona.
