Trump Rises Wins Major Authorization Battle Against Outgoing Governor ‘RINO’

Former President Donald Trump reached a measure of retaliation Tuesday against one of his critics when the state of Maryland, Del. Dan Cox won the Republican primary for governor.

Cox defeated former Secretary of Commerce Kelly Schulz, who served under and was supported by Maryland Governor Larry Hogan. Hogan, a moderate Republican and frequent critic of Trump, was unable to run for re-election due to term limits.

While a final total won’t be available for days until absentee votes are counted, Cox has a lead of Schultz from 56.2% to 40.3% with 79.8% of votes counted, according to the report. Politico.

“Let’s get rid of RINO Shutdown Larry Hogan, who is trying to get another RINO into office, Kelly Schulz,” Trump said in a statement Monday. The acronym “RINO” stands for “Republican Party Name Only”.

Cox and many other Republicans have criticized Hogan’s embargoes and the mandate to vaccinate during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Cox, when asked about Trump’s endorsement, said Tuesday night, “We’ve obviously been blessed by that,” Fox News reported.

He stood in front of a sign that read “Trump endorses Dan Cox” as he declared victory, according to The Washington Post.

“This is a great night for freedom everywhere,” Cox said.

“Every single one of you deserves this win tonight,” he said. “We will never again hand over our bodies, our churches and our businesses to lockdown.”

On the Democratic side, author Wes Moore is leading with 36.7 percent of the vote, but only with 61.1 percent of the votes counted.

Tom Perez, who served as labor secretary under former President Barack Obama and then headed the Democratic National Committee, was second with 27.4 percent.

Peter Franchot, who controls Maryland, is third with 19.6%.

One hit during the campaign was a major ad purchase from the Association of Democratic Governors highlighting Cox’s ties to Trump to help him win the primaries; Democrats view him as much easier to defeat in November.

“It’s unusual to see the DGA colluding with Trump to support the unelected,” Hogan said, according to the Post.

Fox News noted that Democratic governors also backed a Trump-backed candidate — conservative State Senator Doug Mastriano — in the Pennsylvania primary.

Schulz predicts Cox will lose the general election by 30 percentage points, according to The New York Times.

“The Maryland Republicans rallied together and committed mass suicides,” said Doug Mayer, a senior Schulz aide. “The only thing missing is Jim Jones and a cup of Kool-Aid.”

Still, Trump celebrated Cox’s victory.

“Congratulations to Dan Cox,” he said in one parcel on TruthSocial. “NBC Fake News just calls it a race, but in this case, the report isn’t Fake (for a change!).”
