Trump made the death penalty proposal on November 15, 2022 before an audience of several hundred supporters at his Mar-a-Lago estate in Palm Beach, Florida. He said such laws in countries like China and Singapore would put a stop to violent crime in those countries and said they were the only way to fight drug trafficking in the US

“Much of the crime wave is caused by drug dealers, who will kill an average of 500 Americans over their lifetime. Remember. A drug dealer. You see, a drug dealer kills 500 people on average.”

Trump shared more statistics on the illicit drug trade in the US with his supporters without naming a source, while calling for the death penalty.
