Golden State Warriors star Jordan Poole reacts during Game 1 of his team’s first-round playoff series against the Denver Nuggets.

Less than an hour before the Golden State Warriors wrapped up their first-round playoff series against the Nuggets on Saturday, the team arrived with a late change to their starting lineup. Gone are the days when Golden State superstar returns in Steph Curry while reserve champion Jordan Poole lands at this point.

The move came as a surprise to Curry, who earlier this week stated, “If [the return] is Saturday, I’ll start, but outside of that I don’t know the rotation. “However, it was the one paying dividends for Steve Kerr.

In 30 minutes of play, Poole took down the top 30 in the game by shooting 9 out of 13. The third-year pro also knocked five times three in seven tries and added three assists to lead the Dubs to a 123-107 win in game 1.

Of course, raising the occasion is nothing new for Poole. He’s been doing it since before Curry got injured. And he has managed to do the same during post-season run.

Poole is ready for the moment

Jordan Poole takes the Warriors HISTORY in his playoff debut! 📜 30 PTS & 3 ASTIn the Golden State Warriors’ first game against the Denver Nuggets, Jordan Poole hit 30 PTS with a 69% hit from the field. Poole’s PTS is just behind Wilt Chamberlain (35) and ties him with Mitch Richmond (30) for the most points from a Warrior on their playoff debut. ✔️Subscribe to ESPN+ channel espnplus.com/youtube ✔️…2022-04-17M03: 14:44Z

When asked recently if he thought he could make it in and not only survive in the league but also associate with the likes of Curry and Klay Thompson as a youngster, Poole let little doubt about his confidence.

“Since day 1,” Poole said, via NBC Sports Bay Area. “As soon as I walked in, I knew I belonged, it was only a matter of time until I could show it.”

That said, the post-season animal is a different one, one that Poole had never experienced for himself until Saturday. However, the Warriors wing remains confident in his ability to perform for the club. Whether that happens while carrying the baton for Steph or acting as an energy booster from the bench is unimportant to him.

“As long as I can make an impact, help our team win, and lead us as far as possible, I’m happy for that,” he said, via the San Francisco Chronicle. “Whatever the opportunity, I’ll be ready to step up.”

Apparently, he did so on his first trip. His 30 pieces just surpassed Wilt Chamberlain for the most points from Warrior on their playoff debut (Mitch Richmond also scored 30 in his first game of the season).

It’s still a big night for Curry & GSW title hopes

Curry showed obvious signs of rust in his first game since spraining his left foot on March 16 against the Celtics. The dribbler was limited to 21 minutes on the field, of which he scored 16 points on a 5/13 shot. However, he was 3/6 from deep and also contributed four dimes and three pounds.

Meanwhile, the Warriors were 15 points ahead of the Nuggets as he lay on the floor.

However, whether he resembles his Splash Bro or not, the fact that Curry can hit the floor in Game 1 and look like himself is an important step forward for the player and the series as a whole.

If the Warriors are to hope to do well on their title duty this season, they will need Steph to be on the roster, playing key minutes and acting as a spearhead in attack. His ability to get his rep in the playoffs early and deal with the mental and physical hurdles that come with his return from injury will be key to making that happen.

In the end, he’s off to a good start.
