Twisted Wonderland anime adaptation revealed by Disney

Disney just released the mobile game ‘Twisted Wonderland’ in North America, but did you know that there is also an anime adaptation in the work?

There are some big strides happening in the anime industry in 2021, with Crunchyroll being purchased by the Sony Funimation Group and Netflix starting to air the series weekly.

However, it seems that Disney is starting to make waves in the anime world, especially focusing on their mobile game “Twisted Wonderland”.

Twisted Wonderland is a Japanese mobile game created by Aniplex and Walt Disney Japan that was released on iOS and Android on March 18.^order2020.

This week, the game was finally localized in English in the US and Canada. However, it was recently announced that the Twisted Wonderland series will also get an anime adaptation!

What is Twisted Wonderland?

In the video game Twisted Wonderland, the player controls a young man named Yu (default name), who is suddenly transported to a magical world.

He goes to a mysterious magic training school called ‘Night Ravens College’ where he is introduced to the principal and the top students.

The school dormitory, the theme, the events, and even the characters are all loosely described in terms of many popular Disney franchise.

For example, the silver-haired Azil Ashengrotto was inspired by the Mermaid Ursula, while the red-headed Riddle Rosehearts was based on Alice’s Heart Queen in Wonderland.

The Night Raven College staff includes characters inspired by One Hundred and One Dalmatians, Cinderella, Beauty and the Beast, and the Princess and Frog titles.

The game was created by Yana Toboso who is famous for write Very popular comic series by Black Butler.

Has the release date been confirmed for the anime yet?

At the time of writing, neither Disney nor Aniplex have revealed an official release date for the Twisted Wonderland anime series.

In fact, very few details have been revealed; with Walt Disney Japan Twitter page for official sharing only promotion online posters. This includes the animation studio, production staff, voice cast, or even character designers.

However, we can make an extremely early prediction based on the production schedule of another Disney anime title, the recently released Star Wars: Visions series.

While this particular show is an anthology series from various production companies, and not a studio, it marks Disney’s only other major original anime project.

Based on the announcement of Twisted Wonderland and the production schedule of Star Wars: Visions, the expected release time could fall in the Fall of 2022.

Twisted Wonderland will likely be streamed exclusively through the Disney Plus streaming platform, so don’t expect the series to be emulated on platforms like Crunchyroll, Funimation, Netflix, or Amazon Prime.
