Tyler Perry reveals past suicide attempts

Media mogul Tyler Perry is one of the many celebrities sharing her reaction to the tragic death of Stephen “tWitch” Boss. On Wednesday, the 53-year-old mogul took to Instagram to reflect on more than just Boss’s life. But also to share his own past struggles with mental health.

Hello folks. I, like the rest of the world, am shocked by the death of Stephen Boss – tWitch. And it’s made me move on, speaking to each of you who are going through hard times and struggling – I’ve only met him a couple of times and he’s always been full of life and seemed such a light…

Perry’s past suicide attempts

Perry goes on to say that Boss’s death prompted him to reflect on a time in his life when he “attempted to commit suicide.”

“A couple of times,” Perry added.

Because it was so dark. I didn’t think it would get better. I had endured so much pain, so much abuse – sexual abuse. It was so hard just getting through that I figured the only way I could do better, make this pain go away, was to end my life. Had either of these attempts taken place, I would have missed the best part of my life.

Perry wants everyone struggling with suicidal thoughts to ask for help

Perry went on to advise those suffering from similar debilitating thoughts to reach out to someone for help.

What I realize now as I look back on all those dark times is that sometimes the pain is a purchase. I know this is hard to understand – not always, sometimes the pain is a buy-in. Just so I had to learn to look at it to get through. What I mean by that is – all this pain, all this hell, all this struggle – if I had given up, if I had stopped, I would not have seen the better part of my life. So I bought myself something. I paid for something.

Perry went on to explain that his thought process might not make sense to many people. But so he had to rationalize his circumstances to get past them.

My life now I’m the happiest I’ve ever been. Life is full of joy, love. Things I never thought I would achieve. And I’m telling you this, if you’re a person who’s considering suicide, ended your life and you’ve already been through a lot of hell, please, please, please think about what the other side might be. It could be amazing. And you’d miss the best part of it walking through the dark. Don’t let the darkness stop you from reaching this incredible place of light.

Perry ended his message by saying he was “so glad” his suicide attempts had failed. He then shared the number for the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline.

“RIP tWitch,” Perry said before exiting the screen.

Perry’s life lessons and how to pass them on

Perry’s life lessons are definitely worth considering. And now he has a new family member to pass them on to. Corresponding PERSONSPerry is the godfather of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s daughter Lilibet Diana.

In the Netflix documentary series Harry & Meghan, Perry described the moment his parents approached him with the offer.

I go, ‘okay, what’s up?’ They said, “Well, we want you to be Lili’s godfather.” I go, ‘Whoa.’ I had to take a minute to process that. And I thought, ‘I would be honored. I would be absolutely honored.”

Roommates, what do you think of Perry’s transparency? And do you think he’ll be a great godfather to Lilibet?
