His presence was magical. He made me laugh and laugh and was a wonderful teacher – a genius, generous historian.
Scholars, colleagues, bubbly spirits, legends… you rest in peace, dearest André. But your spirit, your “je ne sais quoi”, your VOICE – your laughter, your screams bubbling up, your delight… I hear it now. And will be forever.
We all will.

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of André Leon Talley on January 18, 2022, in New York. For more than five decades as an international icon, he has been a close friend of Yves Saint Laurent, Karl Lagerfeld, Paloma Picasso, Diane von Furstenberg, Bethany Hardison, Manolo Blahnik and he has a penchant for discovering, nurturing, and nurturing. nurture and honor young designers. His line has appeared in Vanity Fair, HG, Interview, Ebony and Women’s Wear Daily and he is the editor of Numero Russia.

On Instagram, designer Diane von Furstenberg Written, “Farewell, dear André…no one sees the world in a more elegant and seductive way than you…no one has more soul and kindness than you…the world will be less joyful than it is now. Von Furstenberg also posted a photo of them together at President Obama’s inauguration, writing, “It’s so cold, we’re wearing ski clothes. On Twitter, author Tressie McMillan Cottom Share a sweet anecdote about Talley, wrote, “This may sound like a myth, but I once had a conversation with André Leon Talley in Whole Foods at Duke. He grazed the salad bar, holding on. He saw me looking and said. He’s funny, smart, and nice to me without being condescending. I never forgot that.”
Above Vogue website, the magazine published its own obituary for Talley, and longtime editor-in-chief Anna Wintour said Talley’s loss was “incalculable.”
Many of us today feel André’s loss: the designers he fervently cheers for each season, and those who love him for it; the generations he inspired to work in the industry, seeing a character who broke boundaries while never forgetting where he started; fashion savvy, and Vogue, simply because of him; and, not to forget, countless colleagues throughout the years were excited by every new discovery by André, which he would discuss enthusiastically and passionately – no one could get people more excited about the details. Fashion weather seems to be the most trivial than him.
Even his colorful fax and email line was a highly anticipated event, which we all looked forward to,” said Anna Wintour. “However, I think of losing André as my colleague and friend now; it cannot be measured. He’s wonderful, erudite, and wickedly funny – very clever as well. Like relationships that span decades, there are complicated moments, but all I want to remember today, all I care about, is this wonderful and compassionate man, a generous and loving friend to me and to my family for many years, and someone we will all miss very much.
