UK news presenter Isabel Webster ‘traumatized’ after her daughter narrowly escaped a van

UK news presenter Isabel Webster was “traumatized” after her five-year-old daughter narrowly escaped a van while on a bike ride with the family yesterday.

The 40-year-old journalist was enjoying a day out with her husband Liam and their baby daughter Poppy when the little girl lost control of her bike on her way home from Richmond Park, south London.

Ms Webster, who co-hosts GB News’ breakfast show with Eamonn Holmes, told MailOnline they were walking downhill when the cycle lane stopped and merged into a dirt track.

But “time slowed” as their daughter, who was in front of them, pulled out into the street just as a white van “accelerated” toward Poppy and almost hit her.

Thankfully, Ms Webster’s husband managed to jump off his bike and throw himself in front of the van, getting Poppy out of the way before tragedy struck.

Describing the incident, which she described as “every parent’s worst nightmare”, the TV presenter explained: “Yesterday was the most beautiful winter’s day.

“I had taken my son to a bushcraft birthday party so my husband and I had a rare morning with my five year old daughter enjoying alone time with her.

“We had a lovely morning biking through a park and looking at the deer.

“We were cycling downhill when the bike path paused where a road crossed it.

“Time slowed down here. I saw a white van speed past and accelerate toward Poppy.

“She was screaming because she couldn’t get the bike to stop. I thought this was going to be really bad.

“I’m basically frozen. It felt like time had stopped, but everything happened so fast.

“My husband is a very experienced cyclist, so he jumped off his bike and threw himself in front of the van.

She continued, “Poppy is only small but he managed to get in front of the van and throw her to the side.”

Ms Webster said about half a dozen pedestrians and cars stopped and “people shouted” at the unfolding events.

The incident left the mother-of-two in “flows of tears,” but instead of being angry at the van driver, she took his hand and thanked him.

“I was so grateful he didn’t run over her,” she said.

‘He [the van driver] thought I would be angry because he was speeding towards the intersection but at the time I didn’t care I could have hugged him.

“I was so happy that what I thought was going to happen didn’t happen. It was a very human moment.”

Ms Webster said she was “still shaken” by the near-collision but was “eternally grateful” to her husband for his quick response.

“It was one of those moments where you think I’m so close to losing her.

“Thank God someone watched us yesterday. It was a hair’s breadth from tragedy.”

Poppy was “laughing and happy” after the incident, but “Liam and I are devastated,” she said.

“It was every parent’s worst nightmare, I can’t believe how lucky we were.”
