Ukraine intensified its artillery and missile attacks on Russian-controlled parts of the Donbass region, targeting weapons depots and military bases in a bid to stem a Russian offensive, while Moscow fired fresh salvos of long-range missiles – some of them launched from air defenses – at cities in all over Ukraine.
The city of Donetsk, the largest in Russian-controlled Donbass, was hit this weekend by the worst artillery shelling since the conflict in eastern Ukraine began in 2014. Media channels, but also civilian infrastructure damaged. The Russian-appointed mayor of Donetsk, Aleksey Kulemzin, whose office was also hit by the shelling, said five civilians were killed.
