UPDATE: Prattville City Council hears dispute over books in public library

Posted:

The Prattville City Council heard debates Tuesday night about whether to put restrictions on public library books that one group says contain sexually explicit material.

Members of a group called Clean Up Alabama have complained about the books at the Autauga Prattville Public Library. Group members say the books are in the young adult section and they want them removed.

Others in Prattville feel the books should stay because they deal with issues affecting the LGBTQ community and are not explicitly sexual.

John Chambers, a member of the Prattville City Council, introduced an ordinance that would require the library to limit the number of books in order to receive its full funding.

This measure was not adopted, meaning that the library will receive its full funding without being subject to restrictions on book placement.
