US considers tariff evasion lawsuit against Chinese manufacturers

WASHINGTON — The Commerce Department said Monday it will investigate whether Chinese solar manufacturers are illegally circumventing solar tariffs by routing their operations through four countries in Southeast Asia.

The investigation could lead to the imposition of significant tariffs on solar cells and modules made by Chinese companies operating out of Cambodia, Thailand, Vietnam and Malaysia.
