HARRISBURG, PA (WHTM) – Thursday was filled with appreciation for our veterans…. It was military appreciation day at the Pennsylvania farm show.
A day when people show appreciation for veterans and military personnel, who wouldn’t love that?
“It feels great, it’s wonderful to see all the support, everyone coming, definitely a great time to see some new faces.” National Guard Sergeant Matt Leber.
Events like the Army vs Navy Cook Off, military cooking demonstrations and awards ceremonies are just a few examples of how veterans have been recognized.
“I’m so excited, I look forward to the Farm Show every year and I can’t thank Secretary Redding and the Department of Agriculture enough for working with us on this day, this important day for our military families and our veterans,” Mark Schindler, the adjutant general of Pennsylvania.
But appreciation can be shown in many ways, including free milkshakes.
“Yes, I’m already in 3 milkshakes, maybe three or four more milkshakes, who knows,” says Leber.
With the fourth largest veteran population in the US, the farm show is teeming with a variety of military officers.
“It gives me a great feeling that these really are the people who raised their right hand and swore to something greater than themselves and to be able to see them, to recognize them, see them with their hats on when they say they’re a veteran they serve and can just shake their hand and say, “Hey, sir or ma’am, thank you for your service,” says Schindler.
You can visit the Department of Military and Veterans Affairs squadron for more information about their programs and services. Otherwise, contact the Department of Military and Veterans Affairs.
