After suffering the height of misogynist journalism, Victoria Beckham is concerned about the state of her daughter’s social media. Posh Spice has openly said she tried to protect her baby girl, Harper Seven, while she was growing up.
Recently interviewed by Fashion, Victoria Beckham has been open about all aspects of her life – including body shaming.
And now the international superstar has to consider what it will be like for her own daughter as she gets older.
The mother-of-four admitted the thought of 11-year-old Harper facing social media analysis was “terrifying”.
escape from the press
“After I had Brooklyn, there was a picture on the front page of a newspaper pointing to every single part of my body where I needed to focus on losing the weight. Imagine doing this now,” said the mother of four.
Before social media, newspapers were just as cruel, and nobody knows that better than ex-Spice Girl, Victoria Beckham. Today’s newspapers are limited to what they can write, especially about women’s bodies. But back in the ’90s and early ’00s, that just wasn’t the case. And it was relentless.
“I had ‘Porky Posh’ on a headline, I had ‘Skeletal Posh’,” said Victoria, showing how newspapers could write whatever they wanted. Afterward, she shared a story about being weighed on a TV show – accused of having an eating disorder.
Times may have moved on, but interest in Victoria’s character hasn’t. A recent interview with David sparked a discussion about her eating habits after he opened up about what she likes to eat. 20 years after those first tabloid headlines, she had to defend herself again.
“What he meant was that he’s never met anyone who was more disciplined about their diet,” she explained.
“I eat a lot of healthy fat: fish, avocado, nuts, stuff like that. I drink alcohol unless I have a reason not to.”

The other Beckham kids have found their own fame. Is it just a matter of time before Harper finds it too?
Victoria, like all mums, admits the prospect of social media analyzing her daughter is “terrifying”. The mother admits it’s scarier that it’s usually at a time when her body is still “changing”.
