Victoria’s state parliament goes into lockdown over ‘bomb threat’

Victoria’s Parliament Buildings in Melbourne have been sealed off due to an alleged bomb threat.

According to Sky News, security guards were seen around the Spring Street building around 11.30am on Thursday.

The police arrived at the scene and blocked access to the building.

A telephone threat was believed to have been made.

All construction work inside the building has been halted while a scheduled press conference has been cancelled.

“Dear Members, we have informed you that there has been a suspected bomb threat against the Houses of Parliament,” it said in an email to MEPs.

“At this time the building is locked, so nobody can enter or leave the building,” it said.

“Police are investigating and we will send an email update as soon as we have more information.”
