Volkswagen begins operations at the first wholly owned battery pack factory in China

BEIJING (Reuters) – Volkswagen has started operations at its first wholly-owned battery pack production plant in China in the city of Hefei, capital of the eastern province of Anhui, the local government of Hefei said on Tuesday.

Volkswagen Anhui will also begin mass production of pure electric models based on the MEB platform by the end of 2023, the government said.

The total investment in the battery pack plant is 1.5 billion yuan ($208.01 million), it said.
