War in Ukraine deepens debt problems in developing countries

The war in Ukraine is making it harder for many emerging market governments to make debt payments to foreign creditors, raising concerns about potential crises that could rock markets and weaken the global economic recovery.

Many of these countries have piled up mountains of debt over the past decade while inflation and interest rates have been low, and over the past two years as costs related to Covid-19 have soared.
