Wayne Carey’s ex Kate Neilson slams the AFL legend after his white powder scandal

Actress Kate Neilson has weighed in on her ex-fiancée Wayne Carey’s white powder scandal days after the AFL star was booted out of a Perth casino for carrying a zip-lock bag of white powder.

Neilson, whose turbulent relationship with former flame Carey, 51, is well documented, hinted during an interview with the Herald Sun on Tuesday that he’s unlikely to learn from his mistakes.

‘[Carey] doesn’t have a great track record for learning his lesson. Only time will tell,” said Neilson, 40.

“He’s like a cat with nine lives,” Neilson added.

The North Melbourne legend was evicted from the Promenade Hotel on Thursday night after a ziplock bag of white powder fell from his pocket onto the gaming table.

Carey has reportedly been banned from entering the Crown grounds for two years, resigned from his Triple M radio show and was barred from appearing on Channel 7’s television show, which was this month’s Brownlow Medal tally.

Carey and Neilson dated for three years before briefly getting engaged in 2009.

In 2007, Carey was accused of allegedly looking his then-girlfriend in the face while the two were having dinner at a restaurant while on vacation in Miami.

Carey was arrested and charged by Miami police while on vacation with Kate after she claimed he smacked her in the face with a wine glass during dinner and cut her mouth and throat.

Carey later pleaded guilty to two counts of battery of a police officer and one count of violent resistance to arrest.

Neilson decided not to press charges against him over the incident.

Neilson’s comments to The Herald Sun come hours after Carey broke his silence on last Thursday’s white powder incident.

Speaking to The Age on Monday night, the athlete said the substance in the bag was not illegal but was “an anti-inflammatory that he took with dinner”.

“It wasn’t an illegal substance, it was offered for security. Security didn’t take it,’ he said.

“They just said it didn’t look good, I understood that, and we left without incident.”

Carey was in Perth to cover Saturday’s game between the Western Bulldogs and Fremantle.

A Crown spokesman confirmed the incident to The West Australian, saying “a patron was escorted from the premises” and “the incident was being handled under our standard procedures”.

“At Crown Perth, our priority remains protecting our guests, staff and community,” the spokesman said.

‘As trained professionals, our employees are charged with providing a safe and comfortable environment for customers and employees at all times and will take the necessary actions to ensure these guidelines are followed.’

With the star reportedly told he now faces a two-year ban from all Crown venues, it means the AFL champion will be banned from attending the AFL-sanctioned Brownlow medal ceremony, which is being held at Melbourne’s Crown Palladium becomes.

When contacted by The Herald Sun about the incident, Channel Seven chief executive Lewis Martin said: “I’ve spoken to Wayne and he has agreed to stand aside pending an investigation.”

Carey added that he has now found another hotel to stay in Perth.

A spokesman for Triple M also said the station had an agreement with Carey that he would be withdrawn while an investigation was conducted.
