In the beginning I didn’t lose any parts, but I did get stuff that either Gary Oldman wasn’t interested in or Phillip Seymour Hoffman wasn’t interested in. It’s quite an odd range. It’s a very strange thing to find out who ends up doing things you do [auditioned for],” he said. “I went in western world for the role of Anthony Hopkins. [Laughs.] yes it is strange Game of Thrones, the part that Jonathan Pryce did. It’s kind of a weird thing.”

“The original pilot. I was ready to do it and then they changed the date and by that point I had already decided on another film,” he said. “So I couldn’t do it and I was devastated. I was really, really upset because I really wanted to do this western world pilot but I couldn’t do it. Then Jonah finally remembered me and then yes, years later they offered me the other role.”
He continued: “Originally, the talk was about the man in black. That was offered, that was discussed. And then they offered me to play the pawn. Is it Peter Abernathy I think? I was asked to play him. So, when I saw the pilot, and I saw… oh god, who’s playing it again? [The actor is Louis Herthum.] Oh I love it, it’s a beautiful performance. So that was okay if you can’t do something and see a really good performance. You don’t mind that kind of thing.”
Bianca Lawson as Maeve or Clementine

The actress told the Chicago Tribune in 2018 that one of her worst auditions was for Westworld. Lawson didn’t reveal what role she auditioned for (in fact, the directors didn’t even tell her), all she knew was that it was a host who was also a prostitute (so it could have been Maeve or Clementine) and that she did not do well in the audition room.
“There was this wonderful, wonderful part on Westworld and I just love the subject of AI and the difference between humans and robots. I was super excited to audition for it. It was very top secret when I went into it and they didn’t tell me what role it was for and I wasn’t sure who she would be but I think it was one of the prostitutes,” she said.
Lawson went on to explain that specifically for the audition, she wore a bra that was padded with a gel-like substance that exploded when she read her lines. “Just as I was about to go to the audition I noticed there was this little stain on my dress and I was like, ‘Oh no, did I drip water here?’ Anyway, I’m going in. And I do the scene. And I’m starting to notice that my hands feel oily and my dress is sticky to me. And what happened was the bra kinda burst!” She said, “It was a thick sticky oil and I was covered in it because while I was shooting the scene I guess I had touched my body, my face and my hair . So I looked like Carrie – but no blood, it was just this oil. Like someone poured oil on me! I was covered It’s all happening while I’m doing this audition! The dress was delicate chiffon, it was a vintage dress, and it clung to my body and dripped. Oh dear God. I was really embarrassed. But I also thought, just do your best. ignore it It is what it is.”
Luke Hemsworth as Teddy Flood
Luke Hemsworth is one of the main cast of Westworld as Ashley Stubbs, the head of Westworld security, but instead of being a behind-the-scenes worker, he could have been one of the hosts. In a 2016 Vulture interview, Hemsworth revealed that he first auditioned for Teddy (played by James Marsden) before being recast as Stubbs. “I think I auditioned at the very beginning, and I auditioned for James Marsden’s role. Just like 5,000 other people,” he said. “Then it went away and transformed and did all its little things, and then it came back and [casting director] John Papsidera suggested that I stand in for the role of Stubbs. It was child’s play for me. I really wanted to jump on board.”
