Jim Carrey is open about his thoughts on what happened at the Oscars after Will Smith punched Chris Rock.
The actor didn’t hesitate to share his thoughts while appearing in the interview with CBS News, conducted by Gayle. Jim also made it clear that he was Team Chris.
At the same time, he called out all the Hollywood stars who decided to stand by Will after the incident took place.
What did Jim Carrey say?
Jim didn’t hold back his thoughts when asked if Will would hit Chris.
The actor said: “I felt nauseous. I was disgusted by the standing ovation. I felt like Hollywood en masse is just spineless. And it really felt like that was a very clear indication that we’re not the cool club anymore.”
He continued, “I would have announced this morning that I’m suing Will for $200 million because this video will be there forever. It will be ubiquitous. This insult will last a very long time.”
At the same time, Jim admitted there were other ways to show disapproval as he added, “If you want to yell and disapprove from the audience … or say something on Twitter or whatever.” [, go ahead]. You don’t have the right to go on stage and slap someone in the face for saying words.”
A look at Will Smith’s apology
Will decided to come forward and publicly apologize to Chris in an Instagram post.
He wrote: “Violence in all its forms is poisonous and destructive. My behavior at the Oscars last night was unacceptable and inexcusable. Jokes at my expense are part of the job, but a joke about Jada’s health was too much for me and I reacted emotionally.”
He continued, “I want to publicly apologize to you Chris. I was out of line and I was wrong. I’m embarrassed and my actions were no indication of the man I want to be. In a world of love and kindness there is no place for violence. “
Did Chris Rock reply?
Chris has not yet responded to Will’s apology. However, it is known that the actor will not press charges.
As the Academy investigates what happened, Will is unlikely to lose his Oscar.
