What do we know about Penacony in Honkai: Star Rail?

Finally we found out more about it Honkai: StarRail Target Penacony. It’s a place we were supposed to be going before the Trailblaze Windswept Wanderlust missions threw us off course. While “Obsequies Performed, A Long Road Ahead” was a fairly brief interlude, it set the stage for the future. Also, I honestly feel like it set an ominous tone for our future trip to Penacony.
Editor’s Note: There will be Honkai: StarRail Penacony spoilers below.

First of all, I find it interesting how close the name is Honkai: StarRail Planet “Penacony” means “penal colony”. It might be a bit on the nose. Still, it makes sense and certainly gives the idea of the origin of the planet without directly saying that it was a prison.
Second, we only have a basic understanding of what to expect from Penacony. After all, we should go there and not to the Xianzhou Luofu. However, the Stellaron crisis there and Kafka have deflected this. The Astral Express was sent an invitation to the former penal colony that became a supposed “utopia” by a group called “Family”. So we know it’s a planet that went from prison to paradise after a Stellaron eruption, and the crew of the Astral Express are said to be “welcome” there.
However, there are some worrying parts. We know that the IPC was originally involved in Penacony Honkai: StarRail. Our previous experiences with this group include Findie ads and trying to turn the Xianzhou Luofu’s Aurum Alley into a warehouse. One of his agents even tries to deceive the local dealers and deigns to sabotage.
We also know that the planet is currently connected to the Aeon Xipe and Harmony path. In the game, characters along this path seem to have the laudable goal of helping others. This includes some of the best support units in the game, like Bronya and Tingyun. However, there are also some menacing elements in Xipe. We know this is an aeon essentially a legion of several. While aiming for harmony and unity, it also suggests that everyone must come together. This could mean that the people of Penacony are proposing to drop all self-awareness and “merge” into some kind of hive mind.

We also had a memory bubble on the Herta space station where the family and Penacony appeared Honkai: StarRail since launch. In it we see the point of view of a person trying to get an invitation to the Penaconium from the family. Someone named Mr. Renoir, associated with the group and the planet, interacted with the person. At the end of this story, the person telling the story mentions that they were told of a “noise,” which may or may not be Mr. Renoir putting his hand in a menacing box. After doing so, they describe feeling that everyone is watching and judging them as if they were a criminal.
Obviously, Penacony seems like a menacing place Honkai: StarRail. We’ve seen what Stellarons can do to planets and locations. We know they can corrupt. The one above this new planet has clearly caused a drastic change. While our group is invited, it feels like we’re being lured into a potential trap. Anyway if Honkai: StarRail follows Genshin ImpactFor example, we may not know more until 2024.
Honkai: StarRail is available for PC and mobile devices and a PS5 version will be released in 2023.
