If you talked to a man in a brown jacket Montevera, you’ll find out he’s looking for bottle caps in exchange for something called hypertraining. But what is hypertraining, and why is it an important part of the Pokémon Crimson & Violet competitive scene? let’s find out
What is hyper training?
Hypertraining is a method that allows you to increase a Pokemon’s stats. individual value (IV) through 31. IVs are hidden stats that each stat has that dictate the maximum value they can grow to with each level. Thirty-one is considered the “perfect” IV, meaning that a level 50 Quaquaval with an IV of 31 has a higher attack stat than a level 50 Quaquaval with an IV of 15.
Each Pokémon stat is assigned a fixed IV upon hatching or catching. The only way to increase an IV afterwards is through hypertraining.

This is how I check my Pokemon’s IVs in Scarlet & Violet
Since IVs are hidden values, you cannot check them by opening the menu. You must first end the game, watch the credits and talk to Sister Joy after saving Paldea. It grants you access to the Judge feature, which allows you to check IVs in your Pokémon Box.
The judge feature doesn’t give you a number, just a rough estimate of what the number between 0 and 31 might be. A stat with an IV of 31 says “Best.” A Hyper Trained stat will read “Hyper Trained,” which equates to a Best IV. The only difference is that Hyper Trained stats cannot be passed on to offspring.
