What does the name 100 Gecs mean?
It seems Laura and Dylan can’t agree on a meaning for the name 100 Gecs. In fact, they’ve given fans several over the years. during one 2019 Instagram Live sessionLaura and Dylan bounced off each other as they unpacked the meaning of the nickname.
Laura said at the beginning that Gecs stands for “become extraordinarily calm,” before Dylan chimed in with “cool” as opposed to “calm.” He then finished by “leaving” before laughing and changing the subject.
In interviews with the outline And Rolling Stone, Laura claimed she once tried to order a gecko online but was sent 100 of them. She suggested naming the duo 100 Geckos, shortening Dylan to 100 Gecs.

Another proposed origin from the group, per Pigeons & Planes, was that Laura and Dylan saw 100 gecs spray-painted on the exterior of Laura’s Chicago dorm building. They apparently searched for the term, found no results, and adopted it as their name.

Not least during a interview With NYU, the duo announced that on the same night, Dylan had a dream in which the number “100” was repeated throughout, and Laura had one in which “Gecs” was repeated throughout, so they named the group 100 Gecs.
