The career of Anne Heche
Before the horrific incident, Heche enjoyed a long career in Hollywood that began over 30 years ago in 1987. Shortly before the 53-year-old graduated from high school, however, she was offered a role in the daytime soap opera As the World Turns, and her mother told her she couldn’t do it.
But before her actual graduation, she was offered another soap role, this time on the long-running series Another World.
Speaking about it later, Heche recalled that her mother was against her choosing the role, but she went for it anyway. she said The Telegraph 2011: “Again I was told I couldn’t go. My mother was very religious and may have thought it was a world of sinners.
“But I got on the phone and said, ‘Send me the ticket. I’m getting on the plane.’ I said: ‘Bye!’ I was spending my time with my mom in a shabby one-bedroom apartment and I was done.”
The actor clearly made the right decision for her as she would win a 1991 Daytime Emmy Award for Outstanding Younger Actress in a Drama Series. In the years that followed, Heche enjoyed astounding screen success, including roles in the high-profile films Volcano, I Know What You Did Last Summer, and Wag the Dog. She even starred in a remake of the Hitchcock classic Psycho.
In 2017, she hit another high when she played serial killer Jeffrey Dahmer’s mentally ill mother, Joyce, in the film My Friend Dahmer before joining the Chicago PD crew in 2018.
