**Warning – spoilers ahead for gloriole**
Episode 1 of gloriole on Paramount Plus wasted no time establishing Pablo Schreiber’s Master Chief as a hero, but the UNSC is another matter.
We explain what Article 72 is, a UNSC-ordered execution, discuss whether the organization is bad or not, and provide an episode guide for the upcoming series.
Developed by Kyle Killen and Steven Kane for Paramount Plus and based on the popular 343 Industries video game franchise of the same name, gloriole is a military sci-fi fantasy franchise and the series will reportedly center on “an epic 26th-century conflict between humanity and an alien menace known as the Covenant.”
What is Article 72?
Article 72 is a clause that allows the United Nations Security Council to carry out any threat to the security of mankind, but in the case presented in Episode 1, these rules are not always black and white.
In the first episode, Kwan Ha, a madrigal escapee, brought my Master Chief to the UNSC, where Miranda Keyes and the organization wanted Kwan Ha to speak on their behalf to get other planets to join the UNSC.
However, it was clear that Kwan Ha wanted independence from Madrigal and other planets and threatened to lie about events to get it.
This prompted Miranda to have a discussion with her father, who then carried out Article 72 for Kwan Ha’s execution as a possible threat. Master Chief rescued Kwan Ha before this happened and the pair fled the UNSC.
Article 72 is a new concept for gloriole Fans and the exact details of what the clause allows the UNSC to do will no doubt be revealed as the series progresses.
Is the UNSC bad?
The UNSC stands for United Nations Space Command and is one of the most powerful military organizations in the galaxy, responsible for keeping the expanse under control – which is why their morale is questionably gray.
During the gloriole Franchise, the United Nations Security Council has dealt with its fair share of corruption, from officers’ abuse of power to its dictatorship.
While the UNSC as a whole is not inherently bad, its moral compass changes from time to time on a case-by-case basis.
