What is the prize money of the PDC World Darts Championship?
ST HELENS celebrated Michael Smith’s first World Darts Championship title after beating Michael van Gerwen at Alexandra Palace on Tuesday night.
The Clock Face 32-year-old achieved dart perfection with a nine-dart finish in the second set on his way to a fantastic 7-4 triumph to win the sport’s greatest prize.
The win gives Smith the champion’s prize of £500,000 for winning the tournament, which started with a field of 96 players.
It also took the former St. Cuthbert’s student to number one in the world.

Fourth-seeded Smith entered the tournament in round two, beating Nathan Rafferty 3-0 before Christmas.
He then fended off a stern challenge from Germany’s Martin Schindler in the last 32, trailing 3-1 to win 4-3.
Smith defeated Joe Cullen 4-1 in the last 16 and then defeated Windle-based pitcher Stephen Bunting 5-3 in the quarterfinals.
Smith managed to fend off Gabriel Clemens in the semifinals with a 5-3 win to set up his final showdown against three-time world champion Michael van Gerwen.
