When Calls the Heart fans know the series is set in the early 1900s, but may not be sure which year. One of the directors of the Hallmark series revealed on social media what year season 9 takes place.

Season 9 of When Calls the Heart is set in 1919

Director Peter DeLuise revealed on Twitter that Season 9 takes place in 1919, while Season 1 takes place in 1910.

He wrote: “Period wardrobe is always a challenge. Season 1 begins in 1910. Season 9 begins in 1919. How much ankle will the women of Hope Valley dare to show? Our wardrobe department works wonders every day!”

Cars are becoming more common in Season 9 in Hope Valley

Cars will be a central theme in Season 9. According to the Library of Congressthe first petrol car with a combustion engine was invented in 1885/1886, and the first four-wheeled four-stroke petrol engine in 1886.

In Hope Valley, cars are becoming a bigger and bigger part of the picture in Season 9. Several quick glances revealed that the Mounties need to learn to drive a car, which Nathan is reluctant to do.

A video shows Bill informing Nathan that he needs to learn to drive.

“I’m not going to give up my horse,” Nathan protests in the clip, which was first released in December.

Bill jokes, “Would you maybe consider giving up that mustache?”

DeLuise has shared other behind-the-scenes stories about the show

In addition to talking about the year the show takes place, DeLuise has revealed more behind-the-scenes details of the show during filming.

Along with the menu showing a selection of French cuisine options for Hope Valley residents.

He also revealed a photo of Laura and Elizabeth’s first scene together in Season 9.

And he shared a behind-the-scenes photo of Mike and Fiona.

He also shared a photo from the first day of preparation for the new season in June. The very next day, Jamestown Movie Set announced on Facebook that a heat wave was heading towards Canada, which would also include the MacInnes Farms location. Temperatures should reach 113 degrees Fahrenheit, they wrote.

“The big news in Hope Valley is the heat wave that is set to hit for the foreseeable future! With temperatures forecast of 45°C ((113°F) for Monday and almost as hot the days before and after, we are predicting lots of sweat and remembering that January never did that to us!
