What’s next for Scottie Scheffler after his Masters triumph?
Scottie Scheffler has the world at his feet and he has set himself on a path to greatness. Until a few months ago, the American was known, but he wasn’t a household name by any stretch of the imagination.
Yes, he was starting to churn out the wins on the PGA Tour, but things all changed in April when he slipped into the coveted Green Jacket and claimed his first Major at the Masters in Augusta.
Despite a double bogey at the 18th, Scheffler cruised to a three-stroke victory and he managed to keep the likes of Cameron Smith and a resurgent Rory McIlroy at bay.
Naturally, as the world No.1, Scheffler has become the hunted and his rivals are eager to take him down. With that, as a Masters champion, expectation levels ratchet and more pressure will be placed on his broad shoulders.
Perhaps what is most surprising, is that he is only 25 years old. During the Masters, the commentators were saying he’s probably the “oldest 25- year-old” they have seen, but Scheffler has shown he has a maturity beyond his years.
But what is next for Scheffler? Well, perhaps there will be a few more Majors on the horizon. It will be interesting to see how Scheffler fares at the US Open and now he’s going to get more attention. There will be throes of golf fans flocking to betting sites and they may back Scheffler more often at the Majors.
Some of the most popular bookmakers, including online betting in Australia sites, such as bet365, will often run specials on how many Majors a particular player might scoop in a season. Scheffler, judging by his recent exploits, is currying favour, and he has been given rather shirt prices to claim at least two Majors this year.
Of course, once a player wins a Major in the manner that Scheffler has done, then it is always easy to make comparisons to say the likes of Tiger Woods. You only need to ask Collin Morikawa, who is already a multiple Major winner, what he thinks.
Scheffler has all the tools and attributes to cope with the pressure and this is only just the beginning for him. While it is very difficult to work out how long he will stay at the top of the world rankings for or how many Majors he will collect in his career, he’s not going anywhere in a hurry, so let’s savour his talent.
