There is nothing more disturbing than the death of an innocent child. However, when that death is caused by the incompetence of an adult, it only makes the situation that much worse.

When cops discovered that two dead children had died alone in a house fire while their mother had her hair done, you can imagine the surprise and disgust the situation evokes.

It all started around 4 p.m. Monday in Bastrop, Louisiana, where firefighters were called to a house fully engulfed in flames.

As it turned out, two children named T’Shae and Clifton Johnson, aged 4 and 3, were in the home and died as a result of the incident.

Local resident Johnnie Halls said he and his cousin were driving by when they saw the fire and decided to stop to help. At the time, the two ran around the house to assess the situation, saw a trailer behind the house and quickly realized that a young lady was living in the trailer with her own two children.
They were able to rescue the woman with two children from the trailer behind the burning house before the fire spread.

Unfortunately, the bad news was just around the corner. The woman from the trailer named Ciarria Johnson, 21, was living in the burning house. After speaking to Ciarria Johnson, she told Johnnie Halls and his cousin that two children were trapped in the house that originally caught fire.

“She got a text or something on the phone saying there were two kids left in that front building, so he and I ran back to that front building. It was too hot to come forward,” said Johnnie Halls.

Another Good Samaritan at the scene intervened, saying they tried to smash a front window to enter the compound and save the children, but were unsuccessful. According to the man, smoke and heat from the flames poured out of the broken window, making it impossible to enter without serious injury.

Police later sent an investigation team along with a K-9 unit, which determined the cause of the fire as one of two gas heaters being used “in close proximity to combustible materials to the space heater,” according to myarklamiss.com.

Worse still, the mother of the now deceased children, 21-year-old Ciarria Johnson, was at a salon getting her hair done when she left them home alone. She then proceeded to lie to the police and say she had arranged for a neighbor to look after her children – a false truth they easily debunked.

She continued to lie to police, saying she didn’t find out about the fire until she returned home, despite someone calling to let her know ahead of time. She has since been charged with “double negligent homicide in the death of her children.”

Johnson is said to be arrested because she was originally taken to Brentwood Psychiatric Hospital for a check-up. Arrangements have been made to take the woman into custody and place her properly where she belongs – in prison.

Johnnie Hall summed up the incident in full when he said: “It’s just really heartbreaking, you know? I don’t know what else to say.”
