When did the Titanic sink?

The Titanic sank at 2:20 a.m. on April 15, 1912.

The colossal ship, carrying 2,200 passengers and crew, had collided with an iceberg two and a half hours earlier.

7:20 p.m.: Reports consist of three large icebergs. Captain Smith is away eating with passengers who are traveling first class.

21:40: Another ship, SS Mesaba, reports several icebergs 15 miles in front of the Titanic.

10:55 p.m.: Another warning comes from a nearby liner, Californian. However, the Titanic continued at full speed.

23:39: The Titanic is now 400 miles south of Newfoundland and despite the multiple warnings she continues to cruise two knots slower than her top speed of 24 knots.

11:40 p.m.: A lookout spotted an iceberg so the engines were reversed and the ship steered to avoid a direct collision. However, the Titanic brushed the side of the iceberg.

11:45 p.m.: Titanic’s engines are all off, but she’s still drifting. Five compartments were torn open by the collision. Chief architect Thomas Andrews predicted that the Titanic would be completely submerged within a few hours.

04:00: The rescue of the survivors begins as soon as they are brought aboard the Carpathia ship.

4:10: The first lifeboat is picked up.

08:30: There are no more survivors to rescue.

08:50: The last survivors are now on board the Carpathia and are being transported to New York City.

April 18, 9:30 p.m.: Carpathia arrives in New York. Only 705 Titanic passengers and crew made it to New York.
