When did Will Smith hit Chris Rock?

Will punched comedian and Oscar presenter Chris during the awards ceremony on Sunday March 27, 2022.

The 94th Annual Academy Awards were held Sunday from 8:00pm to 11:00pm ET at the Dolby Theater in Hollywood, LA.

The incident happened afterwards Chris joked about Jada Pinkett Smith’s new buzz cut look.

Ahead of the slap, the comedian teased Hollywood stars and husband and wife couple Javier Bardem and Penelope Cruz, both of whom were nominated for the 2022 Oscars.

Chris pointed out how awkward it would be if only one of them won the award.

He then moved on to Will’s King Richard nomination before talking about Jada in the next breath. The comedian joked about how the actress could star in a sequel to the 1997 film GI Jane due to her book baldness.

Will appeared to laugh at the joke at first while Jada frowned. However, a moment later, the actor stormed onto the stage and punched Chris. He then went back to his seat and hurled expletives at him, warning the comedian not to say another word about his wife.

As the New York Times There were reportedly serious discussions about removing Will from the theater after the incident. However, there wasn’t much time for action as the Best Actor award was fast approaching and Will was the favorite to win it.

King Richard Star apologizes

After the unexpected incident, Will won the Best Actor award. In his acceptance speech, the 53-year-old star apologized to the Academy and his fellow contestants, but not to Chris.

The star parallels drawn “King Richard,” the father of Venus and Serena Williams, and himself, saying, “Richard Williams was a fierce defender of his family.”

However, Will publicly apologized to Chris via his Instagram on Monday. The actor admitted his behavior was “unacceptable and inexcusable.”

“Jokes at my expense are part of the job but joking about Jada’s health was too much for me and I reacted emotionally,” the star wrote, before apologizing to Chris, writing, “I want to publicly apologize to you , Chris . I was out of line and I was wrong.”

“I’m embarrassed and my actions were not indicative of the man I want to be,” he said.

Back in 2018, Jada opened up about her hair loss due to alopecia.

WebMD describes the condition as an autoimmune disorder “which causes your hair to fall out, often in tufts the size and shape of a quarter.”

The actress speaks in an episode of Red Table called: “Many people have asked why I wear turbans. Well I haven’t talked about it. It’s not easy to talk about, but I’ll talk about it.”

“It was scary when it started,” Jada revealed. “One day I was in the shower and I only had a handful of hair in my hands. And I was like, ‘Oh my god, am I going bald?’ It was one of those moments in my life where I literally trembled with fear.”

The actress admitted she’s “got all sorts of tests,” but experts still “don’t know why” she’s losing her hair.
