Reddit has brought back its famous April Fools’ Day project.
r/place was launched by Reddit on April 1st, 2017 and is now revived five years later in 2022.
The viral experiment is also the brainchild of Wordle inventor Josh Wordle.
It will only take a few days and if you want to be one of the millions who edit the canvas with colored pixels, let us tell you how it’s done.
What is R/Location?
r/place is a subreddit hosting the social experiment on Reddit.
It features a large white grid that can be filled with colored pixels by users logged into the site.
Users can place one pixel at a time every five minutes just by tapping it.
The experiment was a huge hit with the platform’s users, as it is said to have attracted over 16 million tiles from a million people The edge.
How long does it take and how is it done?
r/place began April 1 at 9 a.m. ET. Users can participate until midnight on April 5th.
You can only take part in the experiment if you are logged in to the website.
After logging in, select the widget icon with the letter “P” in the home feed or via the community drawer available in the app.
You can then start placing the tile of your choice.
Those who haven’t logged into Reddit can’t access the colored pixels, but they can still see the image developing in real-time.
Users love the experience
Reddit users must be happy to be back at r/place after five long years.
The concept of a real-time map is found to be most intriguing and Twitter is full of interesting images created on r/place.
A tweeted: “I’m so glad they decided to bring r/place back. It was one of my favorite moments on Reddit. This time it’s time to defend the Destiny Spirit.”

A tweeted: “I just found out that the guy who made Wordle is the same guy who made /r/place and I’m really grateful for the birth of this man.”
