When was Lil TJay shot? Rapper suffers near-fatal wounds in New Jersey

Tione Jayden Merritt, known by the stage name Lil TJay, was shot dead in New Jersey Independent Reports.

The 21-year-old rapper-songwriter released his debut studio album, True 2 Myself, in 2019 before releasing the mixtape State Of Emergency the following year.

NBC New York reports that he was shot multiple times during an alleged attempted robbery.

When was Lil TJay shot?

Lil TJay was shot and killed just after midnight on Wednesday (June 22) at a mall in Edgewater, New Jersey. Bergen record reports.

The Edgewater Police Department responded to an incident after receiving multiple 911 calls about gunfire around The Promenade in Edgewater.

The Bergen County Attorney’s Office (BCPO) said in a expression The rapper and two of his friends were attacked during an attempted robbery.

The Bergen Record reports that Edgewater Police and BCPO were at the shopping promenade after 7 a.m. Wednesday to inspect a red Dodge Durango. Authorities said the vehicle had a bullet hole in the driver’s window, while a blood-stained towel lay at the scene.

Rapper’s condition improves to stable

Lil TJay was found badly wounded at the scene. He dated his friends Jeffrey Valdez and Antoine Boyd. The latter was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, the Bergen Record added.

TMZ reported Wednesday afternoon that Lil TJay is recovering in hospital after emergency surgery.

The outlet reports that he was shot “multiple times,” but the “extent of his wounds” was not clear at the time of writing. The source added that Lil TJay “seems to be doing better” but is “not over the hill.”

The rapper remains hospitalized and a rep for the rapper has not yet commented.

According to this news, the BCPO announced Lil Tjay’s condition has been upgraded from Critical to Stable.

“A victim has been upgraded from critical to stable condition. Others were hospitalized with non-life threatening injuries in good condition,” the BCPO tweeted.

Man arrested in connection with shooting

The same TMZ report says a man was arrested in connection with the shooting. The BCPO said a 27-year-old man, Mohamed Konate, was taken into custody Wednesday afternoon.

Mohamed Konate, 27, of 75 La Salle Street, Apt 20A, New York, was arrested for “attempted murder, armed robbery and possession of weapons.”

The charges include three counts of first-degree attempted murder, three counts of first-degree armed robbery and second-degree illegal possession of a weapon.

He was also charged with second-degree unlawful possession of firearms, second-degree lack of possession of a firearm against certain individuals, and fourth-degree aggravated assault.

He was arrested by BCPO and New York City Police Department detectives and is awaiting extradition to New Jersey.

Lil Tjay’s friends Jeffrey Valdez and Antoine Boyd are currently held in the Bergen County Jail awaiting their first court appearance.

The BCPO states that Valdez and Boyd were with Lil TJay when Konate tried to rob them. Valdez and Boyd have been taken to the Bergen County Jail awaiting their first appearance in the Central Judicial Processing Court in Hackensack, New Jersey.

As detailed in the BCPO press release, Prosecutor Musella said the charges were “alleged allegations” and that the accused would all be “presumed innocent unless and until proven beyond a reasonable doubt.”
