Where is Animal Control filmed? Here’s what we know

The first few months of 2023 have been host to a number of notable new TV shows. The last of us on HBO adapted a critically acclaimed video game to become an equally successful television show. The Mandalorian returned for a highly anticipated third season on Disney Plus after a long hiatus. Self History of the World, Part II on Hulu is making quite an impact as a follow-up to a classic Mel Brooks film from more than 40 years ago. Oh, and among all these there are also animal control.

The new sitcom on Fox follows Frank Shaw (Joel McHale), a former cop who was transferred to Animal Control after discovering evidence of corruption in his police force. Along with the Animal Control colleagues he keeps at bay, they tackle all animal-related incidents in their town while also dealing with people who are just as difficult to deal with as the animals.

Where was Animal Control filmed?
Touted as “Fox Entertainment’s first 100% live-action comedy,” animal control takes place mostly in Seattle, Washington – but mostly it was Shot in Vancouver, Canada.
On the show, Frank and his crew are part of the Northwest Seattle Division of Animal Control. Interestingly, star Joel McHale is a Seattle native who grew up on Mercer Island in the Seattle area. In conversation with Seattle Met, Joel revealed that he visits the city throughout the year to see his family.
However, as most of us know, series settings and filming locations don’t always go together perfectly. As already mentioned, animal control filmed in Vancouver. Accordingly Hollywood North Buzz, Filming took place between October 2022 and January 2023. The series would premiere shortly after production was completed, with the pilot airing on February 16.
“The mountain ranges are going to be difficult to work with,” Joel admitted in his interview Seattle Met.

Despite this, the show takes a few steps to reference its setting and the culture that surrounds it.
“We didn’t have episodes where [we were] like ‘Oh, you have to go to the top of the Space Needle.’ But there’s a whole Seahawks thing happening,” revealed Joel Seattle Met, Regarding the NFL team.
Although the show isn’t actually filmed in Seattle, Joel’s cultural status as a Seattle resident is still ingrained in his identity. He took part University of Washington and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in 1995. In his interview, Joel revealed that he often visits restaurants in Seattle like Matt is on the market and Cafe Vita.
It’s not hard to believe that Joel McHale had his home in mind when filming his new series.
