The state of South Dakota appears to be getting closer to ending a three-year NCAA tournament drought when it comes to rival South Dakota.

The top-seeded Jackrabbits has 28 wins but is afraid to make it to the Top 25 all-season polls according to Matt Zimmer of Team Leader Argus. The Jacks didn’t lose in the conference game all season. Zimmer notes that in essence, the Jacks ran number 27 and that the team was able to do the Big Dance even when the Coyotes pulled in discomfort.

SDSU defeated Omaha from the Summit League on March 5 with an 87-79 win. The Jack looking for a sixth league league crown.

SDSU advanced to the semi-finals against Sioux Falls on a 19-game winning streak and the Jacks haven’t lost since December 15, 2021. The Jacks have an RPI rating of 44 for the season and 28 wins respectively. That ranking is ahead of notable bubble teams like number 45 BYU (22-10) and number 46 Texas (21-10).

The Jacks won twice against the Pac-12 Conference teams at Washington 87-76 on November 23, 2021, followed by Washington State 77-74 on December 11, 2021. SDSU dropped to then No. . 14 Alabama 104-88 on November 12, 2021, in the Jacks’ only game against a ranked opponent.

Baylor Scheierman leads the Jacks in points with 16.3 points per game. The 6-foot-6-tall sophomore guard also averaged eight rebounds, 4.6 assists and 1.4 steals per night.

Scheierman also has the deadliest three-pointer of the Jacks’ ranged ADCs. He hit 47.5% of his three-pointers – the best among Jacks who hit three or more three-pointers per game. Douglas Wilson, Noah Freel and Zeke Mayo had an average of 40% better from the arc.

USD hasn’t seen much success in slowing down the Jacks’ aggressive offense this season. The Coyotes dropped 84 points or more in both of their regular-season losses to the Jacks.

Kruz Perott-Hunt leads the Coyotes in points scored with 14.9 points per game. The junior guard also averaged 4.3 rebounds and 2.3 assists per night. He scored 13 points in the Coyotes’ 74-61 win over Kansas City on Sunday.

Perott-Hunt and company will be looking to avoid the first three-game sweep in a series between two state rivals since the 1979-1980 season.
