Was Death on the Nile filmed in Egypt?

No, Death on the Nile was not shot primarily in Egypt, where the film’s narrative takes place, although the constant backdrop of sun-kissed sandy terrain was very compelling. Egypt was only visited for a few extra shots.

The film was actually created at Longcross Studios in Surrey, England, where various and extensive sets were built to recreate the setting of the source material.

The Old Cataract Hotel and the Temples of Abu Simbel were both recreated in the studio and the ship on which the investigation took place, the SS Karnak, was also created in the studio.

Filming locations Death on the Nile

Outside Longcross Studios, the Death on the Nile Crew visited a handful of locations to reinforce the film’s authenticity.

The Cotswold Water Park Nature Reserve near Swindon was visited to capture scenes from the Spice Market.

Additionally, background footage was shot for the film in Morocco and Egypt, and Cleveland Lake also stood in for the titular Nile, with the second unit team visiting the real Nile for some additional footage.

What’s next for Kenneth Branagh’s series?

Back in March 2022, President Steve Asbell spoke to 20th Century Studios – now under the Disney umbrella The Hollywood Reporter and confirmed that a third screenplay for Branagh’s Poirot series had been written.

Michael Green is said to have written the screenplay, which involves a “shift in genre and tone” and is set in post-war Venice, based on a lesser-known story by Christie.

There are 33 of Christie’s novels that could potentially be adapted, including Evil Under the Sun, Mrs. McGinty’s Dead and The ABC Murders.

Death on the Nile was announced a few weeks later Murder on the Orient Express was published, but all is quiet about the title of the third adaptation for the time being.
