Who is Ammit, the Egyptian god?

Ammit is actually an Egyptian goddess, also known as Ammut or Ahemait, representing divine retribution in mythology.

The goddess was known to sit beside the scales of Ma’at – translated as “Truth” and meant to embody balance and divine order – on call to devour the souls of the unworthy.

Should anyone be deemed unworthy during this judgment, they would suffer a second death at the hands of Ammit and be condemned to roam eternity instead of going to the Reed Fields.

What role does Ammit play in the series?

Ethan Hawke’s antagonist Arthur Harrow is introduced in Episode 1 of moon knight as a worshiper of Ammit.

Dedicated to ridding the world of sinners, Arthur has the scales of Ma’at tattooed on his forearm. When a person is judged in front of Arthur, the scales, or in this case a wand, determine if they’re good, and if they’re bad, Arthur’s tattoo appears to glow red.

Although Arthur is portrayed as an Ammit zealot, some believe that Arthur’s journey is personal and he seems to view himself as a leader rather than a follower of Ammit.
