Who is Christopher Wray and who hired the FBI Director to investigate Donald Trump?

Donald Trump’s Mar-a-Lago, Florida home was raided by FBI agents, the former US President said in an opinion.

In the statement, Trump wrote, “These are dark times for our nation as my beautiful home, Mar-a-Lago in Palm Beach, Florida is currently under siege, raid and occupation by a large group of FBI agents.

“Something like this has never happened to a President of the United States.”

Amid the reports, we take a look at FBI Director Christopher Wray, who is in charge of the investigation and who appointed him.

Who is Christopher Wray?

Christopher Wray was appointed FBI director in August 2017, making him the eighth director to head the federal agency.

Wray was born in New York City and graduated from Yale University in 1989. He received his law degree from Yale Law School in 1992 and served as clerk for Judge J. Michael Luttig of the US Circuit Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit.

Wray worked for the international law firm King & Spalding for 17 years and was Assistant US Attorney for the Northern District of Georgia.

In his most recent role, Wray worked on various federal criminal cases, including public corruption, arms trafficking and drug offenses.

Who appointed him FBI Director?

It may surprise you to find out that Donald Trump appointed Wray as the eighth FBI director during his tenure.

As reported by Politically In July 2017, Trump confirmed his decision on Twitter and named Wray as the agency’s next director.

“I am proud to announce Christopher as my choice to be director of the FBI,” Trump said in a White House statement.

“He is an impeccably qualified person and I know that once the Senate confirms him as head of the FBI, he will once again serve his country as a fierce upholder of the law and an example of integrity.”

Wray said it was a “great honor” to be selected for the role, adding he looked forward to “serving the American people with integrity.”

Insights into Wray’s career

During his time at the Justice Department, Wray served as Assistant Assistant Attorney General before becoming Assistant Assistant Attorney General in the Assistant Attorney General’s office in Washington.

During the administration of former President George W. Bush, Wray served as Assistant Attorney General from 2003 to 2005.

During Bush’s tenure, Wray was responsible for the departments of counterterrorism, counterintelligence and export control. He was also part of the President’s Corporate Fraud Task Force and led the Enron Task Force.

Wray received the Edmund J. Randolph Award for his “Leadership and Contribution to Public Service.”
