Spoiler alert: This article contains spoilers for Season 1 of Fire land.

After being renewed for a second season last January, it’s safe to say fire land has found a permanent home at CBS. Although the show revolves around Bode Donovan (Max Thieriot), another interesting character is Jake Crawford (Jordan Calloway).

Not only did Jake seem antagonistic, but he also seemed to be one of the most selfless characters on the show.

The first impression Jake gives us is that of a firefighter who is afraid of commitment. He later becomes a firefighter who is both a heartthrob and an enemy of Bode.

However, as the season progressed, Jake proved to be a man willing to do anything to protect his family, even if there are no blood relatives.

Jake Crawford didn’t make the best first impression on Fire Country.

The first episode shows Jake not reacting well after his now ex-girlfriend Gabriela (Stephanie Arcila) declared her love for him. It is then revealed that he has problems with relationships and appears to be a gamer.

This thought is only confirmed after Bode punches Jake in the face for breaking his late sister’s heart the night she died.

Although Jake and Bode have a history that doesn’t work in Jake’s favor, he continues to badmouth Bode to people in his unit, including Gabriela.

Jake was also brave to do that, considering Bode’s father Vince Leone (Billy Burke) is the boss and he broke his daughter’s heart the night she died in a car accident.

Luckily, everything was forgiven between Jake and Vince, and Jake even has half-fixed fences with Bode. However, his slowly rekindling friendship with Bode isn’t perfect, and as with most friendships, something (or someone) can easily change how a growing friendship develops.

Chemistry can go a long way for people, and unfortunately, Jake, Bode, and Gabriela had it from the moment they met. Gabriela tried to fight it herself, but ended up ending her relationship with Jake because of her feelings for Bode. Although Jake was clearly hurt, it seemed like a part of him knew it was going to happen.

Instead of screaming in anger after Gabriela admitted her feelings for Bode, Jake took her hands and kissed them, admitting he knew how she really felt. Unfortunately, despite knowing it, Jake was still clearly heartbroken. In fact, the last words Jake said after Gabriela told the truth were, “I hate this.”

Jake and Gabriela weren’t on good terms after the split, but that was settled in no time, and Jake even managed to save Bode from making a life-threatening mistake. Jake recovered after being heartbroken and has not walked any dark paths that we know of since.

One of the kindest things you can do is stand up and help someone in a time of need. That’s exactly what Jake did when he volunteered to donate a kidney to Sharon Leone (Diane Farr), Bode’s mother.

Although everything seemed perfect, both Jake and Sharon were heartbroken to learn that the transplant would no longer be possible. A broken heart returned to Jake, but that might be the least of his worries right now.

An arson investigation was recently launched, which revealed that Manny Perez (Kevin Alejandro) was a possible suspect. Sharon decided to do some research herself. Of all the firefighters, Jake was by the fire when it broke out.

Jake is now a firefighter who went from heartthrob to broken heart and possibly arsonist. Sharon claimed he fits the profile as he was at the scene of the crime and has “a hero complex”. Jake’s history of starting fires doesn’t bode well for his case either.

Did Jake start the fire? Was he really there when the fire broke out? The audience will find out soon enough.

fire land airs Fridays at 9 p.m. EST on CBS. New episodes will return on March 31, 2023. Fans can also stream the show on Outstanding+.
