Bridgerton season 2 premiered today (March 25, 2022), and although it’s known that season 1 fan favorite Regé-Jean Page will not be there returnViewers are still confused as to why he decided to leave the hit show.
To be honest, we’re devastated that Regé-Jean won’t be gracing our screens this spring. Along with the millions of other fans, he was the main reason we chose the series; His chemistry with Daphne Bridgerton was electrifying, which made us watch it in one sitting.
Season 2 will focus on a different main character; Anthony Bridgerton (Jonathan Bailey) embarks on a mission to find his bride, possibly Sharma sisters Kate (Simone Ashley) and Edwina (Charithra Chandran).
Why did Regé-Jean Page leave Bridgerton?
Lady Whistleton revealed the disappointing news in April 2021, leaving the internet mourning the absence of her beloved Duke.
In conversation with diversity in April 2021, the 34-year-old finally explained that a season was originally planned, which appealed to him: “It’s a one-season arc. It will have a beginning, a middle and an end – give us a year,” he said. “[I thought] “That’s interesting,” because then it felt like a limited series. I can come in, I can do my part and then the Bridgerton family rolls on.
He is also no longer in the Bridgerton Whatsapp group, but don’t worry, he didn’t get kicked out, he left because he didn’t want to put the other members in an awkward situation.

Though the actor is currently at the top of his game, Regé-Jean hasn’t appeared in a production since Bridgerton, despite lending his voice to the Netflix documentary Surviving Paradise: A Family Tale.
But the wait will be worth it; Page will star in Netflix action thriller The Gray Man, directed by the Russo Brothers (Marvel), alongside Chris Evans and Ryan Gosling. The film is expected to be released in July 2022 and has a budget of $200 million budget to compete with James Bond.
