Why does Lenny Kravitz always seem to wear sunglasses?

Winner of the Grammy for Best Rock Vocal Performance four years in a row from 1999 to 2002, Lenny Kravitz has become one of the most celebrated names in rock music. After breaking onto the scene in the mid-1980s, Lenny rose to fame as a master of genre mixing, earning him American Music Awards, MTV Video Music Awards, Radio Music Awards and more.

Throughout Lenny’s time in the spotlight, his unique style has become as much a part of his public persona as his legendary music. One aspect of this style is his fondness for wearing sunglasses wherever he is. So why does Lenny wear sunglasses all the time? Read on to find out!

From what we know of Lenny over the course of his decades of revealing music, interviews, and public appearances, it seems the star has never specifically addressed why he’s never seen out and about without his signature sunglasses. Some fans have speculated that Lenny suffers from amblyopia (also called lazy eye), but the star never mentioned it.

Regardless, sunglasses have basically become a part of Lenny’s personality. It’s never just a pair either, as the rock star switches through various interesting designs to accompany his other outfit choices. Though he didn’t directly explain why he dons the sunglasses so often, he did tweet once about what his sunglasses meant to him when he lost one.

Back in 2019, Lenny performed at a concert in California where his sunglasses disappeared. He then took to social media to write, “Missing these sunglasses after my show in LA at the Shrine this weekend. It’s incredibly sentimental to me, it’s vintage, and it belonged to a family member. It’s unclear if the sunglasses were ever returned to Lenny.
