Why Europe welcomes Ukrainian refugees

Russia’s brutal invasion has left Europe facing the biggest refugee crisis since World War II. According to the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, around 4.9 million Ukrainians have fled their country. The most recent crisis, in 2015, caused political turmoil on the continent and affected just 1.3 million people, mostly from Syria, Afghanistan and Iraq.
