Joseph Kosinski is back in the director’s chair on Spiderhead and was known for directing previous films such as Tron: Legacy and oblivion.

More recently, he’s been making waves with it Top Gun: Maverick, the critically acclaimed sequel to the Tom Cruise classic that quickly became a box office sensation. Instead of having to flock to theaters for his latest film, audiences can kick back on the sofa and watch the sci-fi thriller on Netflix.

Starring Chris Hemsworth and Miles Teller – with whom the filmmaker has worked loner – tells the story of two inmates who form a connection while trying to understand their past in an advanced prison.

The star-studded cast and alluring premise will certainly encourage many to check out, but it’s not exactly for kids. So why is Spiderhead rated R?



Why is Spiderhead rated R on Netflix?

Spiderhead has an R rating in the United States for violent content, language, and sexual content.

On the other hand, the film received a rating of 15 in the UK.

delving into details, Age rating Juju reports that there are a number of more specific reasons the film was rated R that parents may want to consider.

There are a number of sexual innuendos and passionate kissing scenes throughout, while scenes of violence and hand-to-hand combat are also depicted throughout the film’s 107-minute runtime.

Due to the nature of some violent sequences, some blood is shown on screen and there is a scene involving suicide that some viewers may find disturbing.

There are also swear words, depictions of drug abuse and alcohol consumption.

“I’m just as happy about a story like this”

Speak with SoonDirector Joseph Kosinski addressed the success of Top Gun: Maverick and why we need movies like Spiderhead too:

“I like making films. I like the process. So yeah, it’s great to see as well topgunwas picked up and is bringing people back to theaters, but I’m just as excited for a story like this that is so unique and different and not based on an existing IP.”

He added, “I think that’s just as important for our business to be able to tell a wide range of stories.”

While not suitable for children, Spiderhead’s central cast will certainly be championed by adult audiences.
