Some viewers of the NBC singing competition reality show say they won’t be watching “The voice” Season 22 because of the coaches.
Cabello took over for Kelly Clarksonwho was absent from the season because she wanted to take the summer off to spend with her children while she divorced her now ex-husband, Brandon Blackstock.
Some people think the coaches ruin the show
Some people went to Reddit after the second week of blind auditions to share that they believe the coaches, particularly Gwen Stefani and Blake Shelton, ruined the show by getting married.
“Don’t get me wrong I like them both as individual trainers but Gwen keeps raving about Blake reminding everyone they’re married every few minutes and it gets really annoying,” one person wrote on Reddit. “The whole fun dynamic between the coaches is they compete against each other, you know? I’m really missing the Kelly vs Blake bivkers at the moment, not really a fan of the over the top alliance that Gwen and Blake have at the moment but right now it just feels like John vs Camila vs the two.
Some people agreed, saying they wouldn’t watch the season.
“That’s why I’m not even tuning in to this season.” one person wrote.
Others said they were generally upset with the trainers’ bickering, with some people saying they enjoy the trainers all off the show but not on the show.
“It’s totally over the top and not that fun anymore at this point,” one person wrote. “They waste so much time ‘bickering’ that they probably have room for at least two more gigs.”
They added: “I’m also sooooo tired of Gwen reminding us that she and Blake are married. That’s enough!”
“That’s the exact reason why I’ve always had a hard time investing in a season that Blake and Gwen have been coaches since they met. It always feels like they’re a duo, or more often than not, Blake helps Gwen. I kind of like Blake when he gives it his all against the other coaches.” another person commented about the dynamics.
‘The Voice’ ratings are still going strong on NBC
While other competitive shows have shifted networks amid ratings dips, “The Voice” remains a ratings powerhouse for NBC.
Corresponding TV series finale, which reports Nielsen ratings for the season, the season 22 premiere of “The Voice” drew 6.1 million viewers, down 15 percent from last season but still a solid viewership. However, the viewership count is still lower than the least watched episode of season 21.
The second Monday episode of the season also drew 6.1 million viewers and held up well with premiere numbers. The Tuesday episodes are also holding up strong, bringing in over 6.1 million viewers for the premiere and 6.0 million for the second Tuesday of the season.
Year-over-year viewership has declined by almost a million viewers per episode, similar to most other shows on network television. TV series finale reported that the season 21 premiere drew 7.2 million viewers.
