Why The Voice’s Blake Shelton is embarrassed

Blake Shelton, self-proclaimed “King” of The Voice, has previously opened up about one thing he finds “embarrassing” about the show.

Country music star Luke Combs previously revealed that he was rejected by The Voice before beginning his career in the industry, and he recently spoke about it again. Since then, Shelton’s earlier comments on the situation have resurfaced.

Combs is one of the highest grossing artists in the country music genre as of 2022. He first hit the radio with his song “Hurricane” in 2017 and since then has released over a dozen number 1 hits and played packed stadium shows.

The star also made history by being the only artist in the past 56 years whose first two studio albums have spent 25 or more weeks at #1 on the country chart. according to Billboard.

Shelton says it was embarrassing to hear “The Voice” turn Combs down

“He told me this story,” Shelton said. “There is no way around; It’s embarrassing. Let’s be honest.”

He told the outlet, “Luke told me he kept his letter of rejection, his letter saying we’re not going to put you on the show. He said he hung this up in his college dorm and hung it on the wall to fuel him, something to fight for. I don’t know if he still has that letter or not, but if he does I think he should frame it and put it next to his first triple platinum album that he has.”

Combs never made it to blind auditions

In a episode of Podcast “Full Send”.Combs spoke of being rejected by “The Voice”.

“I tell them I want to do a country song and they’re like, ‘Oh, well, you’ve never sung country before,'” he recalled speaking to the producers. “I’m like, ‘So I have to sing some kind of [music]? The show is all about being a singer. There’s got to be some kind of angle.”

He added, “I got a letter back after the next audition — which I got through — and they basically told me I was too boring to be on TV.”

Combs said he still kept the letter telling him he was a great singer, but not what they were looking for.

“It’s essentially about reviews, isn’t it?” he added.

Combs attended college and showed up for the producer’s round of auditions during his spring break.

“They had four casting cities and they narrowed it down from about 10,000 people to 200 people,” he later said said Whiskey Riff. “Then you don’t know if you made it onto the show for a few months.”

Combs welcomed his first child on Father’s Day in 2022.

“Well he decided Father’s Day would be a good time to show up,” Combs wrote on Instagram alongside a photo of him and his wife in their nursery with their baby. “I couldn’t agree more. Me and @nicolejcombs are beyond blissful in love with this little guy. Mom and baby are healthy and we are now back home with the family. Life is good.”

He added, “Everybody welcome Tex Lawrence Combs to the world!”

The Voice is slated to return to NBC in fall 2022eason will feature trainers Blake Shelton, Gwen Stefani, Camila Cabello and John Legend.
